Early Monday run
Seriously underslept, but Brent got off early to the airport, I cleared letters of rec and have just had my 1hr as 1:1. Seems like this day has gone on for a long time already: 9:30-11:30 PPC meeting, 1-2 office hours, 2:10-4 seminar and 7pm dinner in Chelsea with a subset of the ladies. Might be able to have a nap after class....

PERFECT run!
Just a modest 1hr as 1:1, but so good - shadier and cooler and less crowded than yesterday, also feet not sore. Much better!

Run!
Rather hot and somewhat achy feet (the R foot is almost completely better now, but left foot - with bunion - gets sore too, and I've been experimenting with different metatarsal pads, the ones I wore yesterday seem to have been pretty useless!), but really nice regardless.

Swim!
Really enjoying this - and I also forgot how much I like the secret fraternity of swimmers. Some of the people at the lane swim are grimly learning, but there is a subgroup who as we change back into our real clothes are basically glowing with happiness!
1000 with fins
200 swim
200 flutter kick on back
200 dolphin kick
400 as 8 x 50 on 1:15, evens free (long and strong) odds fly drill-swim by 25
Finless:
450 as 6 x 75 kick-drill-swim by 25 (frst four free, last two back)
100 IM
1550 total - I was a bit late getting there (detained by running into a favorite Columbia colleague who I haven't seen for too long), the noon rec swimmers were awaiting their alloted hour....

Wednesday-Thursday update
Wednesday: 1hr as 1:1
Thursday: 1hr as 1:1
Juggling slightly too many things to fit in a swim as well as a run this morning, but will swim tomorrow.

Finny swim!
Monday evening: 45 as 1:1 (belatedly, and it was still SO WARM even near 9pm!)
Tuesday: lovely swim! Enjoying this very much. Broke out the Zoomers (with sad thought of Doug Stern, their biggest fan), though I think I will need a new pair, these are borderline too small.
WITH FINS
Warmup #1:
200 swim
200 kick on back
200 as 2 x 100 RaLaCuBa
Warmup #2:
4 x 75 as kick-drill-swim, first two fly, second two back
NO FINS
Main set:
5 x 100, odds free (long and strong), evens IM
200 kick with board for non-fin yardage (1600 yards total)
Funny and nice bit near the end - because my head was above water, I could hear the lane swim coach getting increasingly frustrated with the guy in the next lane, who was trying to learn fly. Finally she asked me to come into his lane and demonstrate! Which I did, and shared my insight from when I was learning it myself, that it's like a dance in the water, a waltz more specifically - 4 bars of 3. He looked very serious and repeated the words, musingly: "A dance in the water." And proceeded to do a very reasonable length of fly, much better than what he had been doing before!

Run!
1hr as 1:1, very nice though rather warm. I made good choices this weekend about how to prioritize my own true needs - I am sure I will be exhausted when I get home mid-afternoon, but hopefully not too tired to read Robinson Crusoe in preparation for class tomorrow. I need to have a morning when I really figure out what letters of rec are due when and whether I have all the materials, but with one more hour today I will be done with the Duchess copy-edit, so things are progressing as they need to. I have a conference in two weeks for which I need to write a (ideally very good) paper, but with Duchess off my desk and a bit of attention to letter-writing etc., that shouldn't be too onerous....

New Haven run!
Had a good long night of sleep (deeply satisfied with decision not to come up yesterday in time to get shuttle bus out to the Walpole Library for the annual tea party - I am sure it would have been very nice, but MUCH TOO TIRING). Lovely run this morning, 80 as 1:1, NO FOOT PAIN (those metatarsal pads are miraculous), up to Edgerton Park which used to be my turnaround when I ran from my apartment on State St. in grad school. Six hours till I need to be anywhere now, which means I have a beautiful five-hour work session with time for a lunch break in the middle. Woo-hoo!

Swim!
I love swimming so much! This was a very good one, I did purposeful work on strokes I like as well as biting the bullet and starting to do some breaststroke too!....
500 warm up as 5 x 100 swim, kick, pull, RaLaCuBa, swim
600 as 4 x 75 back as kick-drill-swim, 2 x 75 fly ditto, 150 breast as 50 kick, 50 drill, 50 swim
100 IM drill
A triumphant 100 of IM that felt great but reminded me my swim fitness still has a ways to go!
100 kick with board
100 swim easy and LONG
1500 yards

Run!
Just 40 as 1:1, really nice (beautiful afternoon), though there is more fatigue from the swim than there should be - that will diminish once I really build back up my swim base. This might be the first two-workout day since I got back to NY at the beginning of the month - hopefully more TK....
Busy week!
Have done my daily exercise but not, I guess, had the wherewithal to log it!
Monday: 30 as 1:1, at the end of the day - I was so tired after teaching (and our first PPC meeting in the morning - it is fatiguing) that I huddled in bed, but did drag myself out as dusk approached, and was very glad of it.
Tuesday: just a short swim, about 700 I think - a third person came in the lane and I didn't have the tolerance to stay!
Wednesday: beautiful 1hr as 1:1, I'd finally had an adequate night of sleep and the weather was less humid (beautiful again today).
Thursday: quiet day, LOVELY swim, will run later.
1500:
500 warmup as 5 x 100 swim, kick on back, pull, RaLaCuBa, swim
500 as 4 x 125 as 25 back, 100 free
2 x 200 back as 50 kick, 50 double-arm, 50 pull, 50 full stroke
100 easy swim down

Sunday run
1hr as 1:1. Need to get myself in the shower and get on with things! Couple cat-related errands and must retrieve tomorrow's reading from my office and do it.

Saturday run
Stayed out way too late last night, slept latish and didn't get out the door expeditiously, had to take Jose to the vet at midday and then ended up leaving my run till the last possible moment - it is grotesquely humid outside, but my foot feels much better and it sure was good to be out there. 1hr as 1:1.

Catch-up!
Yes, this was an insanely busy week, I seem not to have logged here since Saturday! (Main log is a Google spreadsheet for my run coach, secondary log is at my Facebook PT accountability group, this one comes third.)

Saturday run
1hr as 1:1, happy to be out there for a bit longer again! Foot unfortunately rather achy - have been standing on it WAY too much over the last three days, it was unavoidable, but I will have to think about how to limit that more rigidly....

Friday swim!
Just 1200 yards, VERY NICE. Gonna keep 'em short till I've built a bit more swim fitness and also really got the habit solidified, going and swimming just for half an hour is pleasantly easy.

Short swim
Got mired in administrative logistics at the gym, had to wait in a long line, but I did get in a short swim, maybe 800 yards. And a good tip from the instructor on my fly kick!

Monday - home!
Neither lungs/sinuses nor foot PARTICULARLY benefited from air travel, but it is very good to be home! 30 as 1:1 in a park where everyone seems to be flagrantly ignoring leash laws....
Usually I travel back from Brent's on Labor Day itself, but flying on Sunday is really better, this gives me today as a TRUE recovery day, tomorrow as life and work reentry and then I don't teach till later in the day on Wednesday. All good.
