And yes...

Noon stress relief yoga taught by Chantelle, perfect. Run and yoga tomorrow too!

Monday-Tuesday update

Monday: 2 x 15 min walk to and from 6am hot yoga.
Tuesday: 1:20 with 20 as 1:1 to warm up and cool down, work set 5 x 5min faster, 3min walking recovery.

Lungs still a bit gummy, fortunately this cold never really fully manifested but I am feeling pretty low energy. Will probably go to noon stress relief yoga class, always a good goal!

Sunday, December 29, 2019

Sunday

40 as 1:1 easy and early (almost nothing!), slight lung inflammation still but not a full-blown cold, will go to 9:30 fascial flow yoga.

Saturday, December 28, 2019

Saturday longer

90 minutes: 30 as 1:1 easy, 30 as 4:1 moderate, 30 as 1:1 easy.

Friday, December 27, 2019

Yoga!

2 x 15min walk to and from 6am hot yoga. I like that class. Lynsy who teaches it on Mondays and Fridays is extremely good (a good counter!) and the room is never as hot first thing in the morning....

Boxing Day

In retrospect I could have done Coach Jerry's Dashing Through the Sand beach walk as my main exercise rather than an afterthought - it was a slog, I felt very guilty for having gotten my mother to come along (my niece really wasn't enjoying it either) and worse of all for me, the camber was the wrong way, my R hip was higher and R glute-hamstring immediately not happy, getting worse over about 50 mins of slog in soggy sand! Then because of shuttling issues (and of course it's a normal work day for Brent) Brent and I still needed to walk back to the SUV (fortunately on sidewalk) so that he could bring me home and then go back to get the others from post-event breakfast.

1hr as 1:1
50 mins unbalanced beach slog
30 mins walk back to car

Will do mega-stretch once I have showered!

Xmas!

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1 (I slept through the alarm and was then a bit pressed for time due to need to take foster cat Grayson to the shelter to get his travel paperwork done). And noon stress relief yoga, mostly meditation, perfect!

Wednesday: glorious longer early run! Finally got a good full 8hr sleep, got up easily, nice to be out so early on a holiday. 1:20 with 20 as 1:1 warmup, 3 x 8min faster, 3min walk, 6 x 1min fast, 1min walk, 20 as 1:1 easy cooldown.

Will go to 8:45 festive yoga at Bliss, gonna be a good day....

Monday, December 23, 2019

Saturday-Monday catchup

Saturday: 1hr as 1:1
Sunday: 30 as 1:1, 75 minutes fascial flow yoga (obliques and QL, perfection!)
Monday: non-run day, 2 x 15min walk to and from hot yoga

The reappearance

In fact I have been doing my usual key program of 5x run per week, just too busy to log here! (I log for David and I log for my Facebook PT group which includes exercise as well as exercises) But first morning in Cayman and now think I can manage it again, though not at all done with end of semester responsibilities alas....

40 as 1:1 easy and early and WARM!

Friday, December 6, 2019

Swim-run double!

I really would love to be doing this every Thursday and Friday next semester, we will see if David can be persuaded!

30 as 1:1 on the indoor track, then 30 minutes swim in the pool.

100 swim, 100 kick on back, 100 drill-swim by 25 (thumbs-and-salute), 100 whip kick with board, 100 RaLaCuBa. 300 as 4 x 75 kick-drill-swim (first two back, second two fly). 100 breast. 100 IM. 50 easy back swim down.

VERY SATISFYING.

Wednesday-Thursday update

Yesterday was probably the craziest day of the semester, just way overscheduled. I did fit in a run but cut it short because that was the only way I'd have 25 mins to get and eat lunch and do essential minimum course prep. On the track at the gym, because of how icy it had been the afternoon before, about 45 mins - 20 as 1:1 plus a work ladder of 1-2-2-2-3-2-2-2-1-2. Quite nice - back twinged a little after some tweaks due to slipperiness on Tuesday, but it's definitely better inside in warmth than outside in cold.

Thursday: great swim! (Though honestly that plus a meeting before have tired me out and I am thinking about taking the paper proposals I need to read into bed for a working nap.)

(1) 100 swim, 200 flutter kick (first 100 on back, 2nd 100 with board), 100 swim, 200 whip kick with board, 100 RaLaCuBa
(2) 4 x 75 as kick-drill-swim (first two fly, second two back)
(3) 4 x 50 on 1:30 (first two fly-back, second two back-breast)
(4) nice 100 IM to close

1300 yards total

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

Tuesday later

Just did 30 as 1:1 (should have been 60) as I found it very icy and treacherous underfoot once I got down into the park. I'll do tomorrow morning's run on the track at the gym, I think.

Tuesday

Monday was a rest day from running and I didn't do anything other than incidental walking - really Mondays this semester have been a disaster for scheduling reasons beyond my control. Yesterday started with Brent getting up at 4 and me putting him in a car at about ten to five, then frantically reading the second half of Dangerous Liaisons, then ... you get the idea.

Unlike last Tuesday, it was my assessment that I DID have the vim today to swim late morning and still be able to pull off the appropriate run, so yes, lovely swim, then on the run with meetings so let's see if I can actually reconstruct it.

Warmup: 200 swim, 200 kick with board, 200 as 2 x 100 free drill (thumbs-and-salute, finger-drag), 200 as 100 whip kick with board, 100 breast.

2 x 75 fly kick-drill swim

Then a full lane opened up and I did 100 back drill-swim (double-arm, full stroke), then 100 IM, then 50 easy swim down.

It is possible that I am missing another 200 swim in the first half, but probably not....

1200 yards total

Sunday, December 1, 2019

Sunday

1hr as 1:1. Pretty nice, annoying race in the park, chilly weather getting worse...

Saturday, November 30, 2019

Saturday long run

(I mean, it's not actually that long, but it still counts!)

90 with 20 as 1:1, 40 as 4:1, 30 as 1:1. R LB rather sore, the colder weather isn't good for it, but another gorgeous day, with the afternoon sun glittering on the water.

Friday, November 29, 2019

Wed-Fri catchup

Not sure why Wednesday didn't get logged, but it was a really good one (oh, yeah, we were racing out of the house for a noon showing of Ford vs. Ferrari, yes I am having a super-nice quiet week with Brent!): 1:10 or so total, WU/CD 20 as 1:1, work set as ladder: 2/4/5/4/2 fast with 1 min walking recovery. So good!

Thursday: rest day, just a bit of a walk with Brent.

Friday: 40 as 1:1. Gloriously good running weather, my favorite - sunny and relatively mild, high 30s. I am so lucky that my flexible schedule means that in winter months I can almost always run in daytime.

Tuesday, November 26, 2019

Monday, November 25, 2019

Monday

Sunday was a non-run day and I didn't manage to get out for a real walk either, just airport walking in Dublin and at JFK. Exhausting day of travel.

Monday: didn't get out till nearly dark (beautiful watching the bright orange sun drop below the horizon!), GORGEOUS weather, just did 40 as 1:1 (written as that for tomorrow and an hour today, but I should be a bit less tired tomorrow with any luck - today started with the usual taxing 2hr meeting and I had to muster all my wherewithal to get a couple easy letter of recommendation tasks done, not operating at peak mental acuity).

Saturday, November 23, 2019

Saturday

Friday - arrived at hotel 9:30am, miraculously they had a room ready for me, I slept all day, did have a short walk before dinner. Couldn't sleep till 5am and it was a nightmare getting up this morning....

Saturday: 1hr as 1:1. Too many traffic lights along the river!

Thursday, November 21, 2019

Wednesday-Thursday

Wednesday: 1:15 starting and finishing as 1:1 with 4 x 6min run, 2min walking recovery. (Sore lower back on both sides.)

Thursday: Woke up too early and couldn't go back to sleep, grumpy about impending travel (it is entirely my own fault/responsibility, I need to make better choices), but 40 as 1:1 on a lovely mild sunny day (40F) shook out the cobwebs.

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

Monday-Tuesday catch-up

Monday: 40 as 1:1 after an early stint of writing and before my "real" day got started. I was phenomenally tired later in the day, but it was a good one on balance.

Tuesday: SWIM DAY! So nice. Not very happy with the fact that I'll only swim once a week this week and next, gonna sit down and have some serious thought about how to organize things better next semester, but no point self-castigating right now. (And the first two weeks of December should go better from a swim POV, I may even be able to swim 3x week.)

Warmup: 5 x 100 as (1) swim (2) flutter kick with board (3) drill-swim by 25 (thumbs and salute) (4) whip kick with board (5) drill=swim by 25 (finger-drag) (500)
Main set: freestyle (moderate) ladder as 25-50-75-100-75-50-25 on 10-15 seconds rest (400); 12 x 25 freestyle (strong) on :50 (300)
100 breast drill-swim by 50, 100 IM, 50 easy swim down (250) (1450 yards total)

Sunday, November 17, 2019

Saturday-Sunday catch-up

Sat.: 90 mins with start and close 1:1 and 4 x 8min purposeful, 3min walking recovery
Sun.: 1hr as 1:1

Friday, November 15, 2019

Thursday-Friday catch-up

Thursday: I was sorry I couldn't swim as well as run, but it was a great run. Beautiful day, upper 30s and sunny and mild. 75 minutes with 3 x 8min steady, 2min walking recovery in the middle.

Friday: SWIM!!!! FINALLY! Hmmm, what was it now?....

200 kick on back
200 whip kick with board
8 x 75 kick-drill-swim by 25 (2 of each stroke in IM order)

3 x 100 on 3:00 (was going to do more of these but ran out of time), first and third easy IM second harder free
50 easy swim down

1350 yards total

I am so hungry for more swimming (and for YOGA!) but these next two weeks are impossible, maybe December will go better for me....

Wednesday, November 13, 2019

Wednesday happy indoor run!

Just feeling ill on Mon and Tues, needed all energy for the absolutely key work things (and shed whatever did not seem truly mandatory). But I was feeling better yesterday evening, actually felt hungry and ate and enjoyed food, and I think I'm at normal energy and health levels today. It is bizarrely cold and I just did 1hr as 1:1 on the funny little track at the gym; will do my longer intervals tomorrow outside.

Sunday, November 10, 2019

Saturday-Sunday

Didn't get out Saturday till mid-afternoon (I am having a low-grade stomach ache, things not at all bad but just not quite feeling right, after that run yesterday I went to bed at 5pm and didn't get back up till 9 this morning). 90 minutes, 4 x 8min jog 4min walking recovery (back quite sore, had to stop and stretch a few times).

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1, very nice, felt I was moving smoothly and well. Have just eaten 2 bialys and drunk some ginger ale, still don't feel appetite for food that it is not, basically bread or sugar but perhaps better than yesterday afternoon. Now need to make the mother of all to-do lists and execute items....

Friday, November 8, 2019

Friday afternoon run

Beautiful 1hr as 1:1 in the last hour of daylight. Very cold today, it went straight into winter with hardly any fall!

Thursday, November 7, 2019

Swim bit!

Ah, such a satisfying swim, though I wasn't paying close attention to mental logging and I'm not sure I can reconstruct all the details. (I was kind of waiting for my lanemate to get out so that I could have a lane to myself and do some backstroke - I veer terribly, can really only do it in solo situation, masters swim excepted.)

Very Long Warmup (1150):

100 swim
200 flutter kick with board (2 25s of tombstone mixed in)
2 x 100 drill-swim by 25 (thumbs-and-salute, finger-drag)
200 whip kick with board
100 breast
150 as 2 x 75 fly (r, l, full stroke by 25)
200 2 x 100 easy

(solo!)

100 kick on back
100 back alternating double-arm, full stroke
100 back
2 x 100 IM

Also, it is a moral and logistical victory, I was slightly grumpy that an important work thing tomorrow was going to prevent me from swimming - but the pool is closed tomorrow, I wouldn't have been able to swim anyway! Evil Pool Closures FTW....

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

Wednesday glorious run!

Long day of travels yesterday, it was eleven by the time I finally got home. Hard waking up, hard getting up, hard dragging myself off the internet, hard dragging myself out the door. But it was SUCH A GREAT RUN! 1:08, with ladder as 2-2-4-2-6-2-4-2-2-2.

Tuesday, November 5, 2019

Perfect final Cayman exercise morning

40 as 1:1 easy and early and ending at the yoga studio, where Chantelle now teaches a 6:30 flow class. I really love the way she designs these classes, pretty much perfect. Then 15 mins walk home.

Don't need to be at the airport till lunchtime, but it's going to be a long day of travel. No direct flight today, flying Delta through Atlanta to EWR. Fortunately my Amex card plus a Delta boarding pass does give me lounge access in Atlanta....

Monday, November 4, 2019

Monday!

This will be a bit of a recovery day, the weekend was way busy! I have a HUGE pile of work to get through but pretty much all reading so that's relaxing, relatively speaking. Done as written: 40 as 1:! with 10 mins moderate in the middle. Very happy about the results of these 3 days in a row of pummeling (Friday was 1.5hr massage with Heidi focusing on my true trouble areas, lower back, glutes, hips, calves to a lesser extent; Saturday fascial flow was levator/serratus; Sunday was, extremely beneficially, quads and hamstrings). Certainly can feel tension in R spinal erector during the longer interval, but well short of wanting to stretch it out, and the left one is fine until minutes 7-8 when I start to feel a little tension - but much less than I've had these last couple weeks as I get back into it.

Sunday, November 3, 2019

Sat.-Sun.

Sat.: 1hr as 1:1, quick meetup with Brent at Cafe del Sol, then 1hr fascial flow yoga.

Sun.: triathlon volunteer workout! carried lots of things (cases of gatorade and water, farmer's walk with mega-bottles of water, etc.), posted at swim start/finish, by 8 or so everything was wrapped up there and I walked about 30 mins to Cafe del Sol, had a protein shake and some water, then had 75 mins fascial flow yoga again (today's special focus: quads and hamstrings, very helpful).

Friday, November 1, 2019

Hmmm, insanely busy week

But let me try and catch up.

Wednesday: lovely 1:25 run with 20 wu and cd as 1:1, work set as 10-8-6-4-2 "intentional" with 3 mins walking recovery between.
Thursday: travel day, so shattered by the time I get to Cayman that I can do absolutely nothing.
Friday: 1hr warm and early as 1:1; plus 90 minute massage with Heidi in the afternoon! It's more like PT than traditional massage, very helpful.

Have just used my absolute last ounce of energy to finish writing and upload a letter of rec. That is IT! (For today.)

Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Sunday-Tuesday catchup

Sunday: rest day. A nice quiet day mostly at home with cats, marking assignments and rereading Diderot for class on Monday.
Monday: frenetic. A compressed 30 as 1:1 at the end of the day before heading downtown for dinner with an old friend.
Tuesday: my reward for surviving Monday! 1000 yards swim (work set as 2 x 6 x 50 on 1:15, descending by pairs: 2 easy, 2 moderate, 2 hard). Then 40 as 1:1. Happy! Must stretch now tho as I need to be somewhere at 2:30....

Saturday, October 26, 2019

Friday-Saturday catch-up

Friday was pretty much a perfect day: I was supposed to chair a tenure case for the A&S committee in the morning, but that got rescheduled for two weeks from today (giving me crucial extra time to read the materials - I will take them to Cayman with me and do it all there, since I have one last promotion letter for another university that I need to write this weekend). So it was like a gift of a morning: I woke up before the alarm, had 40 as 1:1 in the park, came home and did my 15 minutes PT+, then went for a very nice swim. 1200 yards total: 200 swim, 200 kick on back, 2 x 100 drill-swim by 25 (back, free). 5 x 100 IM on 3:00 (I need about 2:20, bad turns - nice other swimmer has really good turns and always practices them as part of her workout, I need to start doing that), 100 easy swim down as 50 back, 50 free.

Saturday: long sleep, that was good, but rather late going out for my run. Beautiful weather, SORE BACK! 90 with 20 as 1:1, 40 as 4:1, 30 as 1:1 - written as a full hour of 4:1 but it was just too uncomfortable.

Thursday, October 24, 2019

Run!

Did my 15 mins PT in the morning after an overly early and long meeting; misc daytime stuff, only got out for my 1hr as 1:1 as the sun was setting. It was lovely out there...

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

Wednesday run!

PERFECT. Back already feeling better after just a week or so of (semi-)regular stretching. Extraordinarily beautiful day. Just feeling lighter-hearted than I have been for a while - this is good!

1:10 or so, 20 as 1:1 to warm up and cool down, ladder as 2-3-4-3-5-3-4-3-2-3 (faster run interval, then 3 min brisk walking recovery). Happy!

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Swim!

The water feels so good! That said, I didn't have a lot of motivation and got out a little early (I was excited by mid-morning phone call with marketing people about Margaret's book and didn't feel 100% in the exercise zone). Also thinking about how to swim more times in the week - I suspect being willing to swim short is one of the components.

Let's see if I can remember what it was:

100 swim easy
200 kick on back
100 back alternating double-arm and full stroke
100 whip kick with board
2 x 100 free alternating drill-swim by 25 (thumbs-and-salute, finger-drag)
2 x 75 fly as kick-drill-swim by 25
50 breast

Pulled it together for a nice final 100 IM, sort of wished I hadn't already decided to get out but when the brain is out of the pool, the body follows....

1000 yards total

Monday, October 21, 2019

Monday

Post-teaching 1hr as 1:1 (it's better than trying to get up early enough to do it before my 9:30 meeting), then back out to a talk - so I haven't done PT and am not sure I now have it in me.....

Saturday, October 19, 2019

Friday-Saturday runs

Friday: a rather compressed 30 as 2:1 due to awkwardly scheduled day; today, a gorgeous 90 minutes with 20 as 1:1 to warm up and cool down and 4:1 for 50 in the middle. LB gets sore very quickly in the longer interval but I just keep core muscles activated to hold slight pelvic tilt and it at least feels well supported, even if I am making a grimace or two...

Thursday, October 17, 2019

Swim!

I am so in love with swimming right now, it's ridiculous. I walk out of the gym in a preposterously good mood - then I get a tuna sandwich and chicken caesar salad at Pret en route home, Jose is happy to get a tithe of greens out of the deal. OK, let's see, what was it:

Warmup (800):

200 kick on back
100 "tombstone" kick (kickboard in vertical position to increase drag)
200 as 2 x 100 drill-swim by 25, first thumbs-and-salute, second finger-drag
300 as 2 x 150 kick-drill-swim by 50, first breast, second fly (doing single-arm fly for drill and 3-3-3 for swim)

IM set, curtailed due to running out of time (350):

10 x 25 hard on 1:15: 4 fly, 4 back, 2 free
100 IM

50 easy back to swim down

1200 yards total

Hmmm, that's not very many yards, but it really was nice!

Wednesday run, belatedly

(It was a chaotic day again!)

20 min easy as 1:1, 8/6/4/2 min running faster with 3 min easy recovery, 20 min easy as 1:1 - 1:12 total.

Best run I've had for a long time! Got reasonable sleep on Monday and Tuesday nights and had a quiet day Tuesday, it makes a huge difference.

Tuesday, October 15, 2019

Tuesday double!

Basically after working so hard Sunday night and all day Monday, Tuesday I just FLOP and can hardly do any work, it's not good! I had a midtown doctor's appointment mid-afternoon but otherwise was just catching up on email, trying to organize a few things and calming my mind and body with a double dose of exercise.

am: glorious swim! I thought I'd logged it here already, but I guess not (oh wait, now I see it, unposted, and I've just put it up).

pm: 40 as 1:1, plus 15 mins quality PT and ball release.

Swim!

It's a beautiful day, and post-swim I walked back out into the world feeling amazing - buoyancy in water and the mindful nature of this kind of a private swim workout contribute immensely to my sense of wellbeing. My left knee is a bit sore (left ankle rolled outwards on run yesterday and tweaked something) so I got out after about 45 minutes, though it pained me metaphorically not to do any actual IM after all the buildup! Still need to run later; I've moved the schedule around a bit. 1500 yards total.

Warmup (800):

200 kick on back
200 back alternating fifty double-arm drill and fifty swim
200 drill-swim by 25 (100 thumbs and salute, 100 finger-drag)
200 whip kick (really frog) with board

Set #1 (300):

150 breast as kick-drill-swim by 50
2 x 75 fly as kick-drill-swim by 25

Set #2 (400):

8 x 50 on 1:30: 2 fly-free, 2 back-free, 2 breast-free, 2 free-free

Monday, October 14, 2019

Monday

1hr as 1:1, by the skin of my teeth. Nice one (but terrible night of sleep, was awake 3-7am, ugh).

Sunday, October 13, 2019

Sunday

Rest day, just normal walking plus (finally back at it) 15 mins PT/ball release. MUST DO THIS DAILY!

Saturday, October 12, 2019

Friday, Saturday

Friday: 1hr as 1:1

Saturday: 90 minutes! Done as 30 as 1:1, 30 as 4:1, 30 as 1:1. Feet feeling pretty good now that they have adjusted to the orthotics (bunion foot was sore during the transition period), but very sore lower back on both sides in the longer run intervals - was written as 40 as 4:1 but after doing six of them it was clear that that was enough....

Gotta get back on the daily stretching!

Friday, October 11, 2019

Friday

1hr as 1:1, really nice. Had hoped to swim as well but realized when I got up that it wasn't realistic or at least wasn't a good idea, conference today 1-6 plus dinner and it's much better if I head over there not feeling like I've already pushed a bit too hard.

Thursday, October 10, 2019

Swim!

So good - I really love it, and now I'm starting to get back into the routine.... (And I had the whole lane to myself for the whole time, that is the best!)

Warmup: 200 kick on back, 200 frog kick with board, 200 back as drill-swim by 25, 200 free as drill-swim by 25 (first 100 thumbs-and-salute, second 100 finger-drag)

Set #1: 300 as 2 x 75 fly as kick-drill-swim by 25, 150 breast as kick-drill-swim by 50
Set #2: 3 x 100 IM on 3:00 (easy effort, good technique)

50 kick on back

1450 yards total

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

Rainy intervals!

OK, very happy to have a "real" run on the schedule again! 1:03, ladder as 1-2-3-4-3-2-1 faster with 1min walking recovery after each. Very rainy - I was drenched and am still freezing even post-shower!....

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Tuesday

It was dusk by the time I got out (hugely stressful day taking Jose to the cardiologist at the animal hospital - it's very good but it's at 62nd just off the east side highway, took Ubers both ways but that is stressful too and the one coming home wasn't good), but 40 as 1:1, done, and will do the harder one that was written for today tomorrow in the morning when I'm fresher.

Monday, October 7, 2019

Monday

1hr as 1:1, exhausted and demoralized - the true cost of conference-going comes in the aftermath of the return....

Saturday, October 5, 2019

Short Saturday run

Just 45 as 1:! rather than the full hour, lost some time stopped at pedestrian crossings and also taking pictures of pretty things I saw! Had lovely working session in my hotel room before that, a quiet day was what I really needed - now, onwards!

Friday, October 4, 2019

Friday run

1hr as 1:1, really gorgeous - perfect New England fall weather, also I had no idea that Worcester is so pretty. No lunch available at hotel, that's inconvenient, so I'd better get myself over to the conference now and hope I can find food on campus somewhere....

Thursday, October 3, 2019

Wednesday-Thursday update

Wednesday: warm but pleasant 1hr as 1:1.

Thursday: 9am meeting, hoped to get up early and run first but woke up around 3 and only slept lightly thereafter with much tossing and turning, could barely get up in time for the meeting let alone earlier. So I brought all the stuff with me and had a great double! 30 as 1:1 on the Columbia track (and WOAH I was wearing the Hokas and that plus indoor track surface lead to springy mega-bounce, it was lovely, I felt like I was jogging on the moon!!!!), then right downstairs to the pool for about 50 mins. Warmup: 200 kick on back, 200 pull, 200 as 2 x 100 RaLaCuBa, 200 as 25 thumbs-and-salute drill, 25 swim. (Highly beneficial.) 300 as 4 x 75 kick-drill-swim, first two fly (gosh the fitness comes quickly!), 2nd two back. A nice 100 IM concentrating on form, then 150 frog kick with board (need to work on my breast, it's my least favorite stroke and inevitably also the worst by far) and 50 swim. 1400 yards total.

I don't really need to leave here till maybe 7:30 (I would say 8 but I am remembering that time it took two full hours to get to JFK - this shouldn't be like that, it's later into the evening, but just as a precaution). Need to write the second half of my conference talk!

Wednesday, October 2, 2019

Run!

Warm but pleasant, just 1hr as 1:1. Now I must get on with things - I have had a leisurely morning (including a long sleep) as my main goal for the week is to STAY CALM, but this conference talk isn't going to write itself! A mercy today: we have no arduous midday department meeting. This lets me roll with my natural schedule (and my official work obligations run 5-8:30pm so it really is better if I don't run myself too hard earlier in the day).

Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Swim!

A very good one, after a rocky start: I was grumpy going in, after having spent too much attention wrestling with my virtually unusable purchasing card as I try and sort out expenses for upcoming conference. Then I dropped my pool locker key into the water, I was in a middle lane next to the diving well, it's something like 10 feet down, ears were popping for sure as I bobbed back up to the surface! Just not feeling the love, and annoyed with myself for letting admin tasks take up the pre-gym hour - but then I got into it and it was really good.

As I was finishing my warmup, L. came to give me some stroke coaching - goal of getting both arms recovering with high elbow and smooth efficient movement with hand back vertically into the water. "Wave" drill and some thumbs-and-salute, it really made a difference, I was happy!

Warmup: 600 as 200 kick with board (other lady in lane already kicking on back, collision avoidance means no back work for me, yes that was also mildly grumpifying), 200 pull, 200 as 2 x 100 RaLaCuBa. Then about 400 very productive drill work: 200 working with the wave, somewhat imperfectly (I overthink the front end - what is a wave anyway? Why is my right-hand wave totally different from my left? - and forget to keep kicking), then about 200 as 4 x 50 thumbs-and-salute down, swim back. After that: 300 as 4 x 75 kick-drill-swim by 25, first two back and second two fly, then 100 IM concentrating on technique. Call it 1400.

Early Monday run

Seriously underslept, but Brent got off early to the airport, I cleared letters of rec and have just had my 1hr as 1:1. Seems like this day has gone on for a long time already: 9:30-11:30 PPC meeting, 1-2 office hours, 2:10-4 seminar and 7pm dinner in Chelsea with a subset of the ladies. Might be able to have a nap after class....

PERFECT run!

Just a modest 1hr as 1:1, but so good - shadier and cooler and less crowded than yesterday, also feet not sore. Much better!

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Run!

Rather hot and somewhat achy feet (the R foot is almost completely better now, but left foot - with bunion - gets sore too, and I've been experimenting with different metatarsal pads, the ones I wore yesterday seem to have been pretty useless!), but really nice regardless.

75 as 1:1

Swim!

Really enjoying this - and I also forgot how much I like the secret fraternity of swimmers. Some of the people at the lane swim are grimly learning, but there is a subgroup who as we change back into our real clothes are basically glowing with happiness!

1000 with fins

200 swim
200 flutter kick on back
200 dolphin kick
400 as 8 x 50 on 1:15, evens free (long and strong) odds fly drill-swim by 25

Finless:

450 as 6 x 75 kick-drill-swim by 25 (frst four free, last two back)
100 IM

1550 total - I was a bit late getting there (detained by running into a favorite Columbia colleague who I haven't seen for too long), the noon rec swimmers were awaiting their alloted hour....

Wednesday-Thursday update

Wednesday: 1hr as 1:1
Thursday: 1hr as 1:1

Juggling slightly too many things to fit in a swim as well as a run this morning, but will swim tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Finny swim!

Monday evening: 45 as 1:1 (belatedly, and it was still SO WARM even near 9pm!)
Tuesday: lovely swim! Enjoying this very much. Broke out the Zoomers (with sad thought of Doug Stern, their biggest fan), though I think I will need a new pair, these are borderline too small.

WITH FINS

Warmup #1:

200 swim
200 kick on back
200 as 2 x 100 RaLaCuBa

Warmup #2:

4 x 75 as kick-drill-swim, first two fly, second two back

NO FINS

Main set:

5 x 100, odds free (long and strong), evens IM

200 kick with board for non-fin yardage (1600 yards total)

Funny and nice bit near the end - because my head was above water, I could hear the lane swim coach getting increasingly frustrated with the guy in the next lane, who was trying to learn fly. Finally she asked me to come into his lane and demonstrate! Which I did, and shared my insight from when I was learning it myself, that it's like a dance in the water, a waltz more specifically - 4 bars of 3. He looked very serious and repeated the words, musingly: "A dance in the water." And proceeded to do a very reasonable length of fly, much better than what he had been doing before!

Run!

1hr as 1:1, very nice though rather warm. I made good choices this weekend about how to prioritize my own true needs - I am sure I will be exhausted when I get home mid-afternoon, but hopefully not too tired to read Robinson Crusoe in preparation for class tomorrow. I need to have a morning when I really figure out what letters of rec are due when and whether I have all the materials, but with one more hour today I will be done with the Duchess copy-edit, so things are progressing as they need to. I have a conference in two weeks for which I need to write a (ideally very good) paper, but with Duchess off my desk and a bit of attention to letter-writing etc., that shouldn't be too onerous....

Saturday, September 21, 2019

New Haven run!

Had a good long night of sleep (deeply satisfied with decision not to come up yesterday in time to get shuttle bus out to the Walpole Library for the annual tea party - I am sure it would have been very nice, but MUCH TOO TIRING). Lovely run this morning, 80 as 1:1, NO FOOT PAIN (those metatarsal pads are miraculous), up to Edgerton Park which used to be my turnaround when I ran from my apartment on State St. in grad school. Six hours till I need to be anywhere now, which means I have a beautiful five-hour work session with time for a lunch break in the middle. Woo-hoo!

Friday, September 20, 2019

Swim!

I love swimming so much! This was a very good one, I did purposeful work on strokes I like as well as biting the bullet and starting to do some breaststroke too!....

500 warm up as 5 x 100 swim, kick, pull, RaLaCuBa, swim

600 as 4 x 75 back as kick-drill-swim, 2 x 75 fly ditto, 150 breast as 50 kick, 50 drill, 50 swim

100 IM drill

A triumphant 100 of IM that felt great but reminded me my swim fitness still has a ways to go!

100 kick with board
100 swim easy and LONG

1500 yards

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Run!

Just 40 as 1:1, really nice (beautiful afternoon), though there is more fatigue from the swim than there should be - that will diminish once I really build back up my swim base. This might be the first two-workout day since I got back to NY at the beginning of the month - hopefully more TK....

Busy week!

Have done my daily exercise but not, I guess, had the wherewithal to log it!

Monday: 30 as 1:1, at the end of the day - I was so tired after teaching (and our first PPC meeting in the morning - it is fatiguing) that I huddled in bed, but did drag myself out as dusk approached, and was very glad of it.

Tuesday: just a short swim, about 700 I think - a third person came in the lane and I didn't have the tolerance to stay!

Wednesday: beautiful 1hr as 1:1, I'd finally had an adequate night of sleep and the weather was less humid (beautiful again today).

Thursday: quiet day, LOVELY swim, will run later.

1500:

500 warmup as 5 x 100 swim, kick on back, pull, RaLaCuBa, swim
500 as 4 x 125 as 25 back, 100 free
2 x 200 back as 50 kick, 50 double-arm, 50 pull, 50 full stroke
100 easy swim down

Sunday, September 15, 2019

Sunday run

1hr as 1:1. Need to get myself in the shower and get on with things! Couple cat-related errands and must retrieve tomorrow's reading from my office and do it.

Saturday, September 14, 2019

Saturday run

Stayed out way too late last night, slept latish and didn't get out the door expeditiously, had to take Jose to the vet at midday and then ended up leaving my run till the last possible moment - it is grotesquely humid outside, but my foot feels much better and it sure was good to be out there. 1hr as 1:1.

Friday, September 13, 2019

Catch-up!

Yes, this was an insanely busy week, I seem not to have logged here since Saturday! (Main log is a Google spreadsheet for my run coach, secondary log is at my Facebook PT accountability group, this one comes third.)

Sunday: 40 as 1:1
Monday: 30 as 1:1
Tuesday: rare zero, should have had a swim but I was in the THICK of finishing my book manuscript, and I did indeed send it out by early evening, so that's all good!
Wednesday: 1hr as 1:1, foot sore, have put clomper back on for everyday wear and have doc appointment for Tuesday morning
Thursday: 1hr as 1:1, foot perhaps slightly less sore (v humid both these 2 days, let it be fall now please!

Today: great swim! (I am finally having a much-needed peaceful day totally to myself.) 1500 yards: 500 warmup as 5 x 100 swim, kick on back, pull, RaLaCuBa, other drill (fists,, finger-drag); 500 as 5 x 100 with 25 back strong 75 free easy focusing on strong pull; 100 back alternating drill and swim, 100 fly as 75 drill, 25 full stroke (YES!), 100 IM, 200 kick with board. Getting back into it for real!

Saturday, September 7, 2019

Saturday run

1hr as 1:1, happy to be out there for a bit longer again! Foot unfortunately rather achy - have been standing on it WAY too much over the last three days, it was unavoidable, but I will have to think about how to limit that more rigidly....

Friday, September 6, 2019

Friday swim!

Just 1200 yards, VERY NICE. Gonna keep 'em short till I've built a bit more swim fitness and also really got the habit solidified, going and swimming just for half an hour is pleasantly easy.

Thursday, September 5, 2019

Wednesday-Thursday

Must have been too distracted yesterday to write a post!

Wed.: 30 as 1:1
Thurs.: 30 as 1:1

I've got an hour on Saturday, pretty excited about that!

Tuesday, September 3, 2019

Short swim

Got mired in administrative logistics at the gym, had to wait in a long line, but I did get in a short swim, maybe 800 yards. And a good tip from the instructor on my fly kick!

Monday, September 2, 2019

Monday - home!

Neither lungs/sinuses nor foot PARTICULARLY benefited from air travel, but it is very good to be home! 30 as 1:1 in a park where everyone seems to be flagrantly ignoring leash laws....

Usually I travel back from Brent's on Labor Day itself, but flying on Sunday is really better, this gives me today as a TRUE recovery day, tomorrow as life and work reentry and then I don't teach till later in the day on Wednesday. All good.

Sunday, September 1, 2019

Sunday

30 as 1:1, another long sleep, another acknowledgement that lungs are still pretty yuck....

Saturday, August 31, 2019

Saturday

Friday - nothing, still sick.
Saaturday - slept 11 hrs (my brother got out of the hospital yesterday finally, huge relief!), 30 as 1:1 which I hugely appreciated and hten an hour of ball release therapy yoga - sort of a "do your own thing" session which I thoroughly enjoyed as well. Very good start to my last day in Cayman, and I really am feeling somewhat better this morning - still a lot of junk in lungs inevitably, but not a ton of NEW junk, which makes a big difference...

Thursday, August 29, 2019

Thursday

30 as 1:1, very enjoyable. Lungs a little dodgy, toe a little sore, but happy to be out there! This August has not had as much exercise as I would have liked, but it is bliss compared to last August when my back was so painful.

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Wednesday

Tuesday was a zero, still feeling pretty well (just STREAMING sinuses), but things dried up overnight and I had a nice little 30 as 1:1 when I got up this morning. Cleaner day....

Monday, August 26, 2019

Sick!

Nothing Sunday and nothing today, I am sick - it was coming on Saturday over the course of the day. Seems like sinus infection rather than full-on lung ailment, which bodes well for quicker recovery. Better this week than next, but - ugh...

Saturday, August 24, 2019

Friday-Saturday

Friday: 15 mins walk to 6am hot yoga, really enjoyable.
Saturday: David let me do 30 as 1:1! Very nice - foot a bit achy to start (not nearly as bad as it was in July), warms up into feeling close but not entirely identical to other foot. A quick protein shake with Brent at Cafe del Sol, then 7am BRT yoga, with focus today on quads and hamstrings. PERFECT!

Thursday, August 22, 2019

Tuesday-Thursday update

Tuesday: early swim cut short by thunder and lightning!
Wednesday: about 50 mins early swim and water run
Thursday: just 10 mins swim in Brent's condo pool in lieu of taking a zero - off to a late start getting down to proper work (last stroke and stride race went off well last night, but volunteering is tiring!), decided I'd better not do midmorning hot yoga (and also want to do the class tomorrow morning, figuring that while foot is recovering I shouldn't do adjacent days)

Monday, August 19, 2019

Saturday-Monday update

Have been a bit lax in logging. Saturday: 7am BRT yoga, really good. Sunday: alas, got to 9:30 yoga and it had been canceled! Had 15 mins walk home and about 10 mins swimming before the arrival of small children precipitated my exit. Monday: didn't go to early hot class, we were out yesterday evening and it was close to midnight before I was asleep, but the 10:30 class was thoroughly enjoyable. (A bit short - teacher forgot to show, and front desk other teacher didn't realize we hadn't started already.)

Foot is noticeably better, feeling very happy about this.

Friday, August 16, 2019

Friday hot!

15 mins walk to 6am hot yoga, very good, modified as necessary. Brent came and picked me up afterwards, it's not banned as such but I'm trying not to spend too much time on my feet as per doc's instructions.

Thursday, August 15, 2019

Thursday

Ugh, out of sorts today, I think really the problem was that my normal fueling plan doesn't leave me fully charged for a lunchtime class (12:15 core at the gym). Everything about it was slightly horrible and I wanted to cry throughout! Will pretty certainly feel much better once I eat the microwave meal that is currently heating....

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Pool time

60 mins, 30 swim (10 x 4x alternating swim and kick) and 30 pool jog. That's it for today, it's cleaner day and also stroke and stride #2 - tomorrow I might try a spin or yoga as an alternative.

Tuesday, August 13, 2019

Tuesday

50 mins swim easy and early at Brent's office. Hahaha, a seemingly INTERMINABLE set of 20 x 4x alternating swim and kick. Think I will have a foray to the gym at midday, just gotta check that the core class is really happening (August schedules here get wayward).

Monday, August 12, 2019

Saturday-Monday catchup

Saturday: 7am BRT yoga (very good)
Sunday: 9:30 flow + meditation. Teachers are really great about letting me modify so that I don't put weight on my foot!
Monday: 1hr pool time at the Grand Pavilion (kick, drill, swim plus 10 mins pool running)

Friday, August 9, 2019

Hot!

2 x 15 min walk to and from 6am hot.

Thursday, August 8, 2019

Yoga

2pm flow + meditation. It is a great class, but I think I have to stick to hot/core/BRT while my foot is so sore. Feeling rather tired and dispirited - stroke and stride race went really well last night, but I was late to bed, and I'm worried about Jose in Philadelphia, his kidney levels are elevated....

Wednesday, August 7, 2019

Wednesday

1hr as 1:1, nice, but sore foot is bothering me. The dreaded cleaner day + stroke and stride #1 in the evening (I am just volunteering obvs) mean no yoga, but I will make sure to do PT in the afternoon.

Tuesday, August 6, 2019

Monday-Tuesday

Monday: 2 x 15 min walk to and from 6am hot yoga. It was PERFECT, hot but not too hot - lower humidity outside, maybe, and only four people in class (air a lot fresher than usual!).

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, very nice, slight ache in foot and back (back benefited from week off from running no doubt). Will just do 1:1 for next two days, then foot doc appointment on Friday afternoon.

Sunday, August 4, 2019

Saturday-Sunday

Saturday: 7am ball release therapy yoga; 30 mins late morning swim at Sunset House.

Sunday: 9:30-10:45 flow + meditation yoga (started with some more ball release, unusually this time using two balls on both sides first of bottom of spinal erectors and then of neck/cervical spine). Will swim later.

Friday, August 2, 2019

Friday

2 x 15min walk to and from 6am hot yoga (1hr). Very hot - I lost my acclimation during travels....

Thursday, August 1, 2019

Thursday

No swim due to extreme itchiness and desire not to put a second layer on top of the first! Did PT in the am, then 2pm flow + meditation with Chantelle at Bliss - very good class.

Wednesday, July 31, 2019

Mid-week catch-up

Addressing sore foot by having a week off from running, which I find traumatic but sensible (it is already feeling better after 2 days with only modest walking and no running). Monday was travel day (alarm for 2:30am, yes that is early); Tuesday, 30 mins sea swim plus PT; Wednesday, 30 mins sea swim with many thimble jellies and a scraped-up exit where I was briefly stuck on ironshore (limestone karst), yuck. Will be more careful tomorrow!

Sunday, July 28, 2019

Sunday

1hr as 1:1. Sore R foot, grudgingly admitting that I'd better actually do something about it when I get back to Cayman - I don't think I can leave it till September....

Saturday, July 27, 2019

Saturday

Should have been 90 but only managed 70, didn't eke out enough distance in town (there isn't a safe out and back option). 1:1 WU/CD and 40 as 7:1 in the middle. Hanging on by my fingernails, desperate to be "home"!

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Thursday

1:05 or so with 3 x 6min faster, 3min walking recovery.

Wednesday, July 24, 2019

Wednesday

1hr as 1:1, weather very beautiful again, only realized when I opened my computer to log post-run that David had actually given me a "real" Wednesday workout! Which I will now do tomorrow.... (And a longer one on Saturday too, that's nice!)

Tuesday, July 23, 2019

Catch-up

Haven't missed a run (yet). Friday was a travel and non-run day. Saturday, Sunday both had 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk easy and early. Monday was non-run day (and memorial service, all went well). Tuesday, beautiful morning, not too hot, low humidity, breezy: a more relaxed 1:1. Spending quiet morning in the hotel room doing laundry in the basement machines and not too much else.

Thursday, July 18, 2019

Thursday

Very good calming 1hr as 1:1. Brent and I are both absolutely dreading this trip....

Wednesday, July 17, 2019

Wednesday

Good run, though I slightly overdid it - log just said "20 easy" for WU and CD, I was pretty sure it didn't mean continuous but not totally, so I compromised on 4:1 - 1:1 prob smarter. 1:15 total: 20 as 4:1, 3-4-5-4-3 minutes faster with 3 minutes walking recovery, 20 as 4:1.

And 8:45 flow-meditation yoga with Iliana at Bliss, highly worthwhile choice....

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

Tuesday

1hr as 1:1. The humidity is intense....

Will prob either do 12:15 core class at the gym or 2pm flow + meditation at Bliss, not yet decided.

Monday, July 15, 2019

Monday

2 x 15 min walk to and from hot yoga. Did a few PT essentials beforehand.

Sunday, July 14, 2019

Sunday

1hr as 1:1 early - will go to 9:30 75-minute flow + meditation yoga....

Saturday, July 13, 2019

Saturday

75 minutes with 30 as 1:1 jog-walk, 30 as 5:1, 15 as 1:1. No yoga I think, the idea of being so hot and sweaty again so soon after the first round of it just isn't appealing!

Friday, July 12, 2019

Hot!

2 x 15min walk to and from 6am hot yoga. It seemed very hot today, I may have been a bit underhydrated going in....

Thursday, July 11, 2019

Thursday

1hr as 1:1 early, a good morning work session at Cafe del Sol (and some pleasant internet time-wasting first, which I really appreciated as I have not had much this week!), then a lunchtime core class at World Gym.

Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Wednesday

1:10 with work intervals as 5-4-3-2-1 faster (3 minutes' walking recovery between each).

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

Tuesday

Early 1hr as 1:1, then 10:30am hot yoga + 15 mins walk home.

Monday, July 8, 2019

Hot!

2 x 15min walk to and from hot yoga. Was worried beforehand about heat, but really I have good enough acclimation by July from running outside. I have had a few pretty grisly ones where I have come from NYC to Cayman in winter, haven't been doing yoga at all (hot or otherwise) and have zero heat acclimation, that first class is truly gruesome! But the 6am is always a good bet for not-quite-as-hot, so all round, it was fine....

Sunday, July 7, 2019

Run/yoga!

And cat time pre-run, and a bit of work between run and yoga at the ccafe - pretty much a perfect morning.

1hr as 1:1 jog-walk
1.25hr flow/meditation yoga - a superb class

Saturday, July 6, 2019

Yin!

The movie was at 1:30 rather than 1, so yes I did get to go to noon yin!

Friday-Saturday catchup

Friday: 1hr as 1:1
Saturday: nice 90 mins as 30 1:1, 40 9:1, 20 1:1. Back gets quickly v tight and increasingly sore over the longer interval, but short of what I would call actively painful. Making a commitment to get back on the daily PT, I really fell off it over the last five weeks, no longer.

No opportunity for yoga yesterday or today but I will try and go tomorrow, I need to pack a lot of it in!

YOGA! (this was Thursday)

Very good hour of flow + meditation at Bliss. Signed on for unlimited July and August, they have a good deal (and will pause my existing classes so that I can use them when I'm here in the winter). Really missed it this last month, it definitely has to be the other-than-running priority in my exercise life (plus a bit of swimming if I can manage it).

Thursday, July 4, 2019

Sunday-Thursday catchup

Was very frenetic in the days before getting myself out of NYC, don't seem to have blogged, but didn't miss a run.

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1
Monday: rest
Tuesday: evening 1hr as 1:1 after crazy day of too many other things, felt proud of myself for getting out there for this one
Wednesday: early travel
Thursday: early Cayman run! about 1:05, 20 as 1:1 to open and close, then primes: 1 faster, 2 walking recovery, 2/2, 3/2, 5/2, 7/2.

Saturday, June 29, 2019

Friday, Saturday

Friday: 1hr as 1:1
Saturday: 90 mins with 30 as 1:1, 40 as 3:1, 20 as 1:1 - good workout for an extremely hot day

Thursday, June 27, 2019

Thursday

Wednesday was non-run day and I didn't swim, slept very badly and decided it was legit to roll straight into working on my poor neglected overdue essay. Minor neighborhood walking.

Thursday: 1hr as 1:1. The weather this week has been pretty disgustingly hot!

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Sunday-Tuesday catchup

Sunday: rest day for travel.
Monday: 1hr as 1:1 (took forever to get myself out of the house - basically just hugely relieved to be HOME!)
Tuesday: 1:08 with 20 as 1:1 to open and close, work segment as 2-2-4-2-6-2-4-2-2-2. Not particularly hot but grotesquely humid.

Tomorrow is now a non-run day, will swim at Columbia in the 9-10am slot.

Saturday, June 22, 2019

Wednesday-Saturday catch-up

Wednesday was my big day in San Antonio, all went really well, tiring but exhilarating. It's been a bit overwhelming to be traveling again, I really didn't have the underlying wherewithal, so though it's super to see my brother and fam (and new house and new PUP!), I am sort of in a state of collapse - can have much of today to myself, am basically intending to huddle in bed at the hotel with the do not disturb sign on the door....

Thursday: v good 1hr as 1:1 along the Riverwalk, then bus (still v sweaty, ugh) to Austin and a day hanging with Jack and Monte at the house.
Firday: 1hr as 1:1, also very beautiful, down Waller from my hotel and along the hike-bike path along the river, with very beautiful wildflowers and flowering trees.
Saturday: 75 mins, start and close with 20 as 1:1, middle as 5-2-4-2-3-2-2-2-1-2 faster/walking recovery.

There's a quite nice (small but rectangular) pool at the hotel, definitely hoping to take a dip while I'm here, and a yoga studio across the street that I am also considering, though it may be that down time (and a bit of work - I need to type up interview notes from the other day, really that's best done same or next day but it truly hasn't been possible) will be wiser.....

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Rainy Tuesday

1hr as 1:1. The air is disgustingly wet!

Monday, June 17, 2019

Swim!

Did basic PT beforehand (just exercises and stretch, no ball release).

Really nice swim!

1200 as follows:

200 swim, 200 kick on back, 200 drill (RaLaCuBa), 200 as 100 fly drill, 100 alternating double-arm and full back
300 as 100 easy free, 2 x 25 fast with 20 seconds rest
100 as 50 back, 50 free

Sunday, June 16, 2019

Saturday, Sunday

Perfect longer one Saturday: 90 minutes, with opening and closing 20 as 1:1 and in the middle 50 as 4:1 (a personal favorite).

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1. Muggy, but I felt that I was moving well. Nothing hurt!

Friday, June 14, 2019

Friday

1hr as 1:1, really beautiful weather, sunny and cool/breezy. Had some sciatica-type stuff along back of leg later yesterday, probably slightly overdid it on the swim, and I could still feel it a bit hobbling down the hill to the park this morning, but it warms up quickly....

Thursday, June 13, 2019

Swim!

Really enjoyed that, only regret is that it is a tease and the system won't be fully entrenched until September!

1250 yards: 100 free, 100 back, 400 alternating 100 pull 100 kick on back, 2 x 100 IM with fly drill and double-arm back, 2 x 100 RaLaCuBa (right arm, left arm, catch-up, free back down), then 2 x 100 on 2:30 with 3rd 25 faster, 50 back to cool down.

Love!

Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Tuesday, Wednesday

Tuesday's 1hr as 1:1 was much more enjoyable than Monday's. Rainstorms Monday night and some significant cooling-down; Tuesday morning was cool and gusty and overcast, much more suitable. And I found a better route that let me do an actual out and back - nicer than parking lots.

Got home safely, hard to get out the door this morning but I did finally, and nice Wednesday workout as follows:

20 min easy as 1:1, 1/2/3/4 faster with 1 min easy, 1/2/3/4 faster with 2 min easy, 20 min easy as 1:1

Trying to maintain a positive attitude about how soon I have to travel again!

Monday, June 10, 2019

Monday

Sunday rest day was good, I finally got to sleep in a bit and I actually put down the mat and did my PT, woo-hoo!

Monday: 1hr as 1:1, the airport hotel is in a little industrial park, a bit of a mental strain to eke out a full hour but it is preferable to running on the treadmill, so I can work with that....

Update

OK, Saturday in Ottawa, a week after last post - first day I am feeling calm and not utterly hammered! Really I haven't missed any runs, but it's been pretty crazy - Brent's mother died last Sunday evening, so I had to get myself to Ottawa ASAP and we have been chipping away at estate business. Today finally a day with no appointments; our only major task is to check out of this downtown hotel and get checked in at our usual airport Hilton Garden Inn (Brent was originally going to travel today). Let's see what's been going on:

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1
Monday: 1hr as 1:1
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1
Wednesday - rest day, knew I wanted the morning hours with Brent - we got in Tuesday evening
Thursday - we are downtown for these days, which means access to the gorgeous Rideau Canal run path!!! YES! 20 warmup as 1:1, then 6-2-5-2-4-2-3-2-2-2-1-2 (faster, then the 2s are walking recovery), 20 as 1:1 cooldown. This was GREAT.
Friday - 1hr as 1:1, rather chafed in various spots and with slightly sore bunion foot; pleasant but aware of minor woes
Saturday - SO GOOD! This and Thursday's are 2 of the nicest runs I've had all year. Takeaway is that I've now had a week of virtually no time at desk/computer and my back feels close to totally normal in spite of the fact that I haven't had the wherewithal to do PT. Need to do some significant reconfiguring of how I manage my computer time. 90 mins, 25 as 1:1 to start and close, 40 as 9:1 in the middle, so nice!

Friday

Thursday: non-run day, just PT
Friday: 1hr as 1:1, very nice, last Paris run for an indefinitely long while. Will do PT once I have eaten and showered.

Have really missed yoga this week, and am not feeling cheery about the fact that June logistics make it unlikely I will be doing it regularly....

Sunday-Wednesday catchup

Sunday: 80 as 20 as 1:1, 40 as alternating 5 easier, 5 faster, 20 as 1:1. Not fun, back very sore....
Monday: non-run day
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1
Wednesday: 20 as 1:1, 2/4/6/4/2 faster with 2:00 walking recovery between, 20 as 1:1

Just got back from that last one, it went very well - I do still need to walk rather than jog the recovery to let tension in back and along leg release, but it felt pretty good!

Bain sonore!

90 mins yin + 2 x 15min walk each way. That was good - and now I am meeting Amy and David for dinner!

Wednesday-Saturday catch-up

Have been in continuous state of high anxiety re: upcoming travel and logistics in the meantime!

Wednesday: 1hr as 1:1
Thursday: 80 min with ladder
Friday: just PT and some walking
Saturday: 1hr as 1:1, will do PT once I've showered, should be able to make it to 5:15 yin

Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Monday, Tuesday

Monday: non-run day, PT + misc. walk
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, PT, no yoga as day got started very late and I have to go back out again in the evening

Sunday, May 19, 2019

Friday-Sunday

Friday: 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk, no yoga
Saturday: 80 mins with 20 as 1:1 to start and close, 40 as 9:1; yin 90 au bain sonore
Sunday: 1hr as 1:1, 3pm hot yin yang

Thursday, May 16, 2019

Sunday-Thursday catch-up

My mother was visiting for a few days and I seem to have gotten behind on logging!

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk
Monday: non-run day, PT and misc walking
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, PT
Wednesday: 1hr+ with ladder, PT
Thursday: non-run day, 7pm hot yin yang yoga

Saturday, May 11, 2019

Friday-Saturday

Friday was just PT, hardly slept Thursday night and it was a non-run day.

Saturday: nice midday run in TORRENTIAL rain at first and then sunny, 80 mins, 20 as 1:1 to start and finish with 40 as 7:1 in the middle, that is good. Made it back out late afternoon for 90 mins yin yoga (+ 2 x 15 min walking). Rather sore left foot continues to bother me, will pursue medical advice when I am back in NYC. (I am pretty sure I know exactly what it is - I've had a bunion on that foot for a lung time, yes that is the most disgusting word and concept in English, it's getting more pronounced and I think it has elicited Morton's neuroma in the forefoot.)

Thursday, May 9, 2019

Wednesday-Thursday

Wednesday: really good run, 80 minutes with 20 as 1:1 to start and finish and 40 as 4:1 in the middle. Everything (except for slightly sore foot) is feeling good. It was a holiday, couldn't go to the office for cleaner exile, got very damp and chilly at the cafe I holed up in, and could not quite get myself back out the door for evening yoga, but I think that's OK.

Thursday: nice 1hr as 1:1. Will go to 7pm hot yin yang yoga barring unforeseen calamity....

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Monday-Tuesday update

Monday: non-run day, did quality PT+ before going to the office, then 9pm warm yin (very nice).
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1 in the "morning" (felt good, no problems, quite strong and smooth); 5pm hot hatha 90. On a good yoga roll right now it seems - I try not to get too obsessive about it, but it might be I can go every day this week.

David has written some good workouts for me over the next few weeks too...

Sunday, May 5, 2019

Sunday

OK, that was good. Very nice hour as 1:1 (yin yoga worked magic), then 3pm hot yin-yang (did a few PT stretches while I was waiting for class to start), extremely good.

Saturday, May 4, 2019

Friday-Saturday update

Friday: non-run day; did good PT+ before I went to the office, but was too tired by end of day to think yoga seemed like a good idea (also went down rabbit-hole of trying to find something Gibbon cites, took longer than I thought it would).

Saturday: much better, on balance. Had a very nice late morning run (I CANNOT GET UP IN THE MORNING!) in the Luxembourg Gardens, which were mercifully OPEN; it was chilly and rather rainy, my happy running weather, with a lot fewer people than usual. 80 minutes with 20 as 1:1, 20 as 2:1 (no, 3 doesn't go into 20, David thinks not having the numbers all really tailored is something I need to learn to tolerate!), 20 as 3:1, 20 as 4:1. Great way to do it.

Tried a new yoga class and it was GREAT - 90 minutes early evening yin yoga. Got there early enough to do my PT essentials first, but the class, too, was REALLY useful. 2 x 15 mins walk to and from, so I think that is now sufficient, and I intend to spend the evening lying on the couch reading a novel....

Jet lag update

Ugh, the suffering is real - the last few days have been pretty horrible! Did do the essentials but nothing more.

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1
Wednesday: 1hr with 20 as 1:1 to start and finish, 20 as 4:1 in the middle (tight lower R calf)
Thursday: non-run day, finally did proper PT+ (have been inconsistent in last couple of weeks, illness and travel both make it harder), then 7pm hot ying-yang. Which felt very intense - I was a little queasy a few times in the second half, plus lower calf bothering me on the warrior 1-warrior 2 etc. sequencing - but not completely overwhelming. I mean, I survived, and walked home afterwards with my wits more or less about me!

Monday, April 29, 2019

Monday late

Got stuck in gridlock about 10 minutes from home (taxi from airport), trip otherwise pretty smooth, slight delay in taking off but that doesn't really matter once I am ensconced. Slept for c. 3 hours, dragged myself up at 4 or so. About an hour of walking all told (2 x 15 min to and from M&S for groceries, 2 x 15min to and from yoga). That "warm yin 60 aux bougies" is very beneficial, pretty much just what I needed. Not sure when IF EVER I will now be able to go to sleep....

Sunday, April 28, 2019

Sunday run

1hr as 1:1 early, then 15 mins walk to Cafe del Sol. PT at home. Writing now from Miami lounge....

Saturday, April 27, 2019

Friday-Saturday update

Friday: non-run day, 2 x 15min walk to 6am hot yoga. Did NOT do PT+ later, for no particularly good reason.
Saturday: 80 early as 1:1, very tranquil. Will go to noon yin yoga (best for pre-travel day IMO) and will do PT at some point as well.

Sad now because we are about to take the 2 beautiful kittens back to the Humane Society!

Thursday, April 25, 2019

Thursday trifecta

1hr as 1:1 early, 10:30 hot yoga (lung junk made me slightly queasy at peak poses, but basically very enjoyable), just did PT+. And two book work sessions, so really I'm just DONE for the day!

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Mon.-Wed. catchup

Monday: walk to and from 1hr hot yoga
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1
Wednesday: 20 as 1:1 warmup, 4 x 5:1 easy-moderate, 20 as 1:1 cooldown

No yoga yesterday as waiting for delivery of trap to help extract hidden kitten, who did indeed emerge and enter the trap for food in the evening. We will take that one back to the shelter today, don't want to risk it getting lost again, so probably no yoga today either, though I may be able to get to the 2pm. Tomorrow and Friday yoga for sure!

Sunday, April 21, 2019

Sunday

Very good combo: early 50 as 20 as 1:1, 10 min continuous jog (back a bit sore - still the aftermath of Bad Yoga!), 20 as 1:1. Then got to the 75-minute mid-morning yoga class that's flow + meditation, we started with ball release and then mostly worked towards things with the idea of loosening the lower back, PERFECT!

Tomorrow is still a holiday, i.e. disrupted yoga schedule....

Saturday, April 20, 2019

yin

Got to the noon yin yoga class, very good.

Saturday

80 as 1:1. Hoping to get to yoga as well but other things may intercede....

Friday, April 19, 2019

Thursday-Friday

Thursday: just 1hr as 1:1 and PT at home, lungs still not great and figured I needed the rest more than I needed the yoga.

Friday: non-run day, did the early 1hr hot yoga class, it was good (and not nearly as hot as the other day). That may be it for today, I think - it is a holiday!...

Wednesday, April 17, 2019

Wednesday

I did go to yoga yesterday, but lung junk is bad when lying down and I was coughing really too much - I won't go today, it is unpleasant for others as well as for myself!

This morning: 1hr with 20 as 1:1 easy warmup, 20 as 4:1 moderate, 20 as 1:1 cooldown. Lungs are actually OK when I'm standing - I think it has to do with how the mucus pools!....

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

Monday-Tuesday

Monday is a non-run day, I walked over to 6am hot yoga which was good. Ailment hit lungs in a big way yesterday, I was not feeling very optimistic, but this morning things feel better rather than worse, so that is helpful in terms of general morale!

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, and I will go to 10:30 hot yoga as well (after a few hours of work in the coffee shop).

Sunday, April 14, 2019

Friday-Sunday catch-up

Ugh, head cold coming on me very strongly during long travel day, that is horrible, and yesterday (Sat.) UTTER streaming cold with face exploding with erms, but I slept for almost twelve hours and though I can feel phlegm building now in lungs in a minor way, it is a huge relief that the streaming phase is over.

Sat.: 1hr as 1:1 (we automatically make it an easy few days after travel, this was already planned)
Sun.: 1hr as 1:1

Will go to 6am yoga tomorrow morning, that is good...

Thursday, April 11, 2019

Thursday

1hr as 1:1 in the late morning; 7pm hot yin-yang yoga (GOSH I miss yoga when I am not doing it - that was really good). Home now and must get on with things, it is early that I need to leave tomorrow and there are a lot of things I need to do first...

Wednesday, April 10, 2019

Midweek update

Monday: did good PT in the am, non-run day, friend commitments meant no yoga.

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, evening commitment = no yoga (plus back v sore from Bad Yoga). Evening realization - sinus infection incoming!
a
Wednesday: modified hard-effort midweek run due to sinus issues and desire not to escalate anything. 75 mins, warmup 20 as 1:1 easy, work set as 10-2-8-2-6-2-4-2-2-2 (run intervals easy, walk 2 min recovery), then 10 as 1:1 cooldown. Sinuses are a pain!

Sunday, April 7, 2019

Sunday!

OK, I was flailing around a bit, and didn't get up early enough, but really that is a respectable day. Did my 1hr as 1:1, very nice; realized I wouldn't have time to digest before 3pm hot yin yang but that teacher Dominique also offers a 4:45 non-hot basic hatha class; went to the office to work for a couple hours (procrastinating getting started on this short Pamela variations piece - did finally do the one more bit of work I needed to be able to (re)submit my wretched receipts for reimbursement, tidied up office b/c it was in Gibbonian squalor, etc. etc.); remembered a 6pm phone appointment that would PREVENT me from going to aforementioned yoga, and gnashed my teeth; emailed the colleague in question who very kindly said 7pm (her 1pm) would be fine - so YES, 1.5hr hatha 1 in NON-hot room....

This week seems a little chaotic. I am leaving on Friday for two weeks in Cayman but I also have quite a few extra things scheduled. Will just try and keep my cool!

Saturday, April 6, 2019

Saturday

Nice morning run of 90 minutes, 20 warmup as 1:1 jog-walk then 4:1 subsequently. Lazy afternoon (in retrospect I wish I had hewed to my original plan and gone to the office to work on my Pamela piece), and I made the mistake of not checking the online schedule before going to 7pm yoga. Didn't realize till the teacher told us to sit at the front of our mats that it wasn't the usual "Bikram en 60 minutes" with a substitute teacher but rather a whole different class, hot power! It actually wasn't bad, I am strong and in good yoga shape, we didn't move too quickly, but I am really not supple enough to be making transitions directly from warrior 2 into chatturanga, and my knees were throbbing by the end of the standing sequence. Glad it was only an hour!

Friday, April 5, 2019

Thursday-Friday

Thursday: 1hr as 1:1 in the morning, unusually busy day, hot yin-yang yoga at 7 and then one more work thing, a 9:30pm dissertation chapter conference I called in to. I have to stop using that slot for that purpose, I then couldn't go to sleep till FOREVER (ditto on Wednesday, getting home from evening event at Institute - it just kills sleep for me if I've been out in the world or having human contact).

Friday: non-run day, did my PT earlier, went to Coco's 5pm full hot 26 class which I really like. Did feel pretty darn hot by the end! But I have true acclimation now (and also am now firmly planted in a small area at one end of the room that seems not to be QUITE as hot as the rest of the room, or that is at least the very last place to reach full heat).

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Wednesday!

Good day! No realistic way to fit yoga in, but then I have pretty much decided that on the mid-week harder workout day, it's not a good idea to do strenuous yoga as well. (I was hoping for the 9pm 1hr hot hatha, but I hadn't realize that though the "conversation" part of the evening's events starts at 7, the associated concert doesn't start till 8, and there is ominous hinting that it won't be done till 10...)

70 minutes with 20 as 1:1 warmup and cooldown, work set as 2-2-4-2-6-2-4-2-2-2. Still doing first minute of the 2min recovery as walk, then jog for the remaining minute. All good.

I have JUST finished drafting part 3 of my book (messy handwritten draft with inserts from typed notes, so it's a slog to type it up, but still), and part 4 is short and the notes for it are pretty satisfactory. I had slightly given up on the notion that I would be able to type this all up before leaving for Cayman on April 12, but now I think I should shoot for that instead. It means I can then make a list of further research/info gaps and fill the easy ones while I still have library access, then just take the manuscript with me to edit for the 2 weeks at Brent's. (First some basic copy-editing to clean up and sort out the whole second half of the book, then a look at the thing taken as a whole.) I have two other book-length manuscripts to read while I'm there and write reports on, so that's basically probably me set for the trip work-wise. Precious marked-up pages and key research books obviously travel in the cabin with me!

Tuesday, April 2, 2019

Catch-up

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1, very nice, yoga didn't happen (fueling and timing issues mostly, still discombobulated from being out the night before)
Monday: non-run day, PT+ and quite a bit of walking (museum visit + fellow socializing > yoga for this particular day anyway!)
Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, then EXCELLENT yoga, I hadn't been to a class since Friday and I was really jonesing for it! 90 mins hot hatha, perfect.

Saturday, March 30, 2019

Saturday run!

A really really nice one, with more running than I have had for a quite a while - 90 minutes with 20 as 1:1 warmup then 5:1. Loved every minute!

It was my intention to go to 3pm yoga, but as I walked over, I encountered a GINORMOUS march coming down Blvd Saint-Michel (not I think gilets jaunes?). Surge of panic + already with doubts about whether yoga was a great idea (underfueled, slightly tender foot with bunion, need to go out again later and possibly negotiate actual gilets jaune presence this time since my best route is to Chatelet on metro and then on foot the remaining blocks to the Marais). Beat hasty retreat home! Feel calmer now that I have eaten something....

Friday, March 29, 2019

Yoga!

did my 15 mins PT+ earlier, non-run day, then 5pm yoga, full Bikram with Coco. It was really good - the room wasn't all the way hot at the beginning, it then did heat up to about where it is supposed to be (maybe a little cooler, I am positioning myself on the side the heat doesn't come from), but I felt like I was able to do everything without tipping over into the Red Zone!....

Thursday, March 28, 2019

Yoga!

It was really good, though it must have been more humid than usual. It is a long time to be in a hot humid room! But it means I will have heat acclimation when I get to Brent's in April and want to be running outside....

Wednesday-Thursday

Wednesday, funny one with 80 mins starting and closing with 20 as 1:1 but in the middle 6-3-5-3-4-3-3-3-2-3-1-3, alternating faster and easy. Did good PT yesterday but no yoga (had early evening coffee with a friend of a friend in another neighborhood and have decided in wake of locked-out disaster of Tuesday that it is best when my day holds only three things - I think if Tuesday had just been run, haircut, office it would have been OK, it was also gathering the stuff to bring for yoga that did me in; yesterday was run, office, coffee ditto, and I also dimly recall my past self a few weeks ago, on a day when I DID do Wednesday evening yoga, noting that it is really not a good idea to do 90 minutes of strenuous yoga on the same day I do my hardest run effort).

Today, forgot PT, but the three things are run, office (both done now - quota has been produced, I am doing a 14-day online boot camp thing as a prod) and 7pm hot yin yang yoga.

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Tuesday

Lovely morning run (1hr as 1:1), day then went haywire as I locked myself out of the apartment. Managed to do the 2 most important things I was supposed to (haircut in the Marais, writing session at the office); no yoga, since I was waiting at the office to hear back from my landlord about when I could meet up with his wife who would bring the key (he was out of town). SO relieved to be home again - there is a 9pm yoga but I am not going to push my luck, imagine if I locked myself out again - but also really I just need to eat dinner!

Monday, March 25, 2019

Monday

Non-run day, did my 15 mins PT essentials before leaving for the office. Warm yin yoga was good! (But working too intently at the computer has lit up that trouble spot behind R shoulderblade and some additional midback tension - I could feel it throughout class, though at the end I did a little extra stretching and it seems more normal now.)

Sunday, March 24, 2019

Sunday

OK, that was good: 75 mins run with 20 warmup as 1:1 and the rest as 5:1; 90 mins hot yin-yang yoga.

Saturday, March 23, 2019

Friday-Saturday

Friday is non-run day, did my 15 min PT+, spent the afternoon at the office (and I DID send out the thing I was keen to finish), met up with T. at HER yoga in the Marais! Very nice, very hot. I am more likely to be self-critical than self-praising, but I think I should feel somewhat proud that I can do a hard HOT 75 min yoga class in French without it being anything out of the ordinary. It speaks to a lot of work all those years ago as a teenager learning French and to about 12 years of off-and-on but overall fairly consistent yoga....

Saturday: gardens closed again (big march going down Blvd Saint-Michel by the time I was coming home), did tomorrow's today (i.e. just 1hr as 1:1), actually kinda nice to "save" the good one for tomorrow....

Will go to 7pm Bikran en 60. (ED: No, mismanaged meal timing, have just had a snack and will flop on the couch instead!)

Thursday, March 21, 2019

Yoga!

I think that hot yin-yang is my favorite class, couldn't go to it either day last week so was very happy to be back it. Tomorrow T. invited me to come with her to HER yoga!....

Wednesday-Thursday

Wednesday: 75 with work set as 6 x (3min faster, 1min walking recovery, 2min easy jog)
Thursday: 1hr as 1:1

Should be able to go to 7pm hot yin yang, unless I get derailed by movie screening that has promised popcorn and beer - I think I can resist, but we will see....

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Tuesday

Good day all round: 1hr as 1:1 in the morning, just perfect; 5pm hot hatha 90, also very good (pretty hot, but I think I am acclimated now, and also the room wasn't that full). Just got off the phone with the editor who is going to publish Margaret Kilik's unpublished novel, something I've been working towards for more than a year now - I am so excited that this is actually going to happen!

Monday, March 18, 2019

Monday

Non-run day, did essential 15 min of PT+ first thing, then 2 x 15 min walk to acquire essential provisions at M&S Food. Just now, 2 x 15 min walk for "warm yin 60 aux bougies" - last week's teacher is gone to study singing in Bali, this week's was still good but not perhaps quite as much what I wanted (though on the bright side, it was genuinely just warm rather than HOT HOT HOT!).

Sunday, March 17, 2019

Sunday

1hr as 1:1, very nice, though pelted with hail from the sky at one point....

Saturday, March 16, 2019

Saturday evening yoga

The slightly comically named "Bikram Yoga (Hot 26) en 60 Minutes" - it is good. Feeling slightly low, no particular reason - dinner should help....

Thurs.-Sat.

Undesirably busy week both with work stuff and with BOOK stuff - second half of the week kind of got on top of me. About to go out now and do some decent food shopping ... and will definitely go to 7pm 1hr hot yoga.

Thursday: 1hr as 1:1 (logistics ended up making yoga impossible)
Friday: non-run day, 15 mins PT/ball release/stretch, by end of a long day of book work was too underfueled and done in to make it to 7pm yoga, was annoyed with myself at home afterwards as I clearly had just let myself overwork into deep fatigue! (Wednesday and Thursday were really busy with external commitments involving human contact...)
Saturday: Did my 15 mins PT first as back of R leg is still rather stiff/tight from too much computer time, then 80 mins with 20 warmup as 1:1 and then 60 as 5:1.

Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Wednesday

80 mins, 20 as 1:1 warmup and cooldown, work set of 40 x 8 x 5 as 2min faster, 1min walking recovery, 2min easy jog.

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

Tuesday

I am really increasingly sure that run + yoga is the best exercise combo for me these days. Had nice easy morning 1hr as 1:1, then 5pm hot hatha 90. Not too many people in the room = rather less overwhelmingly hot than it often is....

Monday, March 11, 2019

Monday

Non-run day, did the essential 15 mins before I went to the office, then 9pm warm yin yoga with candles (and yes, it WAS very relaxing!).

Sunday, March 10, 2019

Sunday

Good exercise weekend though I didn't get much work done. Today: really nice (windy) run, 80 minutes with 30 to warm up as 1:1 (middle age!) and then 5:1 for the rest of the time, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And yoga at 3 - it was a substitute teacher, quite good class but quite different, I had to pay much harder attention to understand her than when it is my familiar class!...

Saturday, March 9, 2019

Saturday

Just did 1hr as 1:1 for the run, Luxembourg Gardens closed again, will prefer to save my longer one for tomorrow when it should be open! (Yellow Jackets/gilets jaunes issues - many police vans waiting for action.) 1hr Bikram (really it's more like 70 minutes) was extremely good - the room was relatively empty and for once I was at the RIGHT level of heat rather than tipping towards overheating...

Friday, March 8, 2019

Friday!

Very nice 1hr as 1:1, I was glad I hadn't "used it up" yesterday. No yoga for the very good reason that I was finishing my essay, and now it is SENT!

Thursday, March 7, 2019

Thursday

Non-run day, did 15 mins essential PT/ball release/stretch not long after I got up and then 7pm hot yin-yang yoga.

Wednesday, March 6, 2019

Tuesday, Wednesday

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1, 90 minutes hot hatha yoga
Wednesday: great run in the morning, 75 minutes with 30 1:1 warmup, then v nice work set of 6 x (3min faster, 1min walking recovery, 2min easy), finish with a bit more 1:1. 90 minutes hot hatha in the evening, it was WAY too hot (it's the humidity), I had to lie down quite a few times and the towel on the mat was DISGUSTINGLY squelchy by the end....

Have made psychological error by writing in the yoga class I would notionally go to every day in this week's appointment pages - once it's written down, I feel like it's set in stone - really I probably didn't need to go to yoga this evening, I hadn't hydrated sufficiently over the day....

Monday, March 4, 2019

Monday

A good day. Non-run day, did a good 15 mins of stretch/BR not too long after I got up just in case yoga didn't happen (but really everything felt good in the morning, much less stiff than yesterday). 2 x 15 min walk to buy groceries. 2 x 15 min walk to and from 1.5hr back therapy yoga. Which is a really good class - the teacher is a true teacher, a pleasure to watch and listen!

Sunday, March 3, 2019

Sunday

Very good day - 1hr as 1:1, really nice; finally started properly writing my overdue essay; 3pm hot yin-yang (it was canceled on Thursday, it really is my favorite of all the classes), AND I think I've finally figured out where the coolest spots in the room are! Off shortly to meet up with H. at his millinery booth!

Saturday, March 2, 2019

Saturday

Good day of exercise. 78 mins with 18 warmup as 1:1 and 60 as 5:1. Have to keep it very easy or tension builds up in R lower back/glute with longer intervals, but that's OK. Did 15 mins PT/ball release/stretch after. Made it to 7pm yoga tho possibly at the cost of writing vim - I couldn't go to sleep till really late, slept late, only ate lunch at 2, had 4pm phone appointment and there you go, the day is gone!

Friday, March 1, 2019

Friday

Non-run day (I did today's yesterday), did make it to 1pm hot class. Still very hot (or very hot again)! I like this teacher, she's funny and fast. Missing Brent somewhat but it will be good to be back on normal work and exercise schedule, really I like exercising twice a day better than just once....

Thursday, February 28, 2019

Wednesday, Thursday

Wed.: 1hr with work segment as 6 x 1min mod/hard (fast legs), 2min easy.
Thurs.: 1hr as 1:1 (discombobulated due to Brent's sad departure!), did in the end make it to 9pm hot class which was SO HOT....

Hoping to be back on real regular schedule tomorrow. It was a worthwhile tradeoff but I am ready to dig in and get back on it now! Have this overdue essay on Samuel Johnson and history that is starting to come together, these things always take up more days than I optimistically imagine (I believe I actually need the thinking time? could be rationalization, could be truth....).

Tuesday

1pm hot class! Michelle was doing it, it was a good class, it was very hot....

Monday, February 25, 2019

Sunday, Monday

Sunday: 1hr as 1:1, some PT/ball release.
Monday: 1hr as 1:1 (doing tomorrow's run today).

Saturday, February 23, 2019

Saturday

1hr as 1:1, still this ridiculously nice weather, and I have done 15 mins PT/ball release as well. No yoga today I think - day is for hanging around and being lazy with Brent!

Friday, February 22, 2019

Friday

Thursday was a rest day, just did PT/ball release and a bunch of walking. It is beautiful again today (60s and sunny!), did 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk in the morning and managed to get to 1pm hot yoga as well, which was very good. (And very hot!)

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Tuesday

Monday was a rest day, did a lot of walking on misc. (only partially successful) errands and 15 mins PT and ball release. Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1 (we're going to have another week of that as a precaution - ugh, lungs still so full of glop, it is really too bad - I am done with meds now but it's probably going to take another week for the junk to dry up completely); hot hatha 90 (which was very hot but very good!).

Sunday, February 17, 2019

Sunday

I end this week much better than I began it! Still a lot of glop in lungs but the Mucomyst is clearing it somewhat and day by day I'm noticeably better. 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk not long after I got up, and then a very good (grotesquely hot! I was right next to the little humidifier, making a mental note NOT to do that again! by the time I got there 3-4 minutes before class started, all the good areas were claimed...) hot ying-yang yoga. Springlike weather and longer sunlight make everything easier....

Saturday, February 16, 2019

Saturday!

Ah, this has been a good day. Still got junk in lungs, but woke up to realization that I really am noticeably better even than I was yesterday, that is cheering. Had a nice 1hr of 1:1 jog walk in a beautifully sunny Jardin de Luxembourgh (a treat that it was open, I thought I would have to go round the outer sidewalk), and got to the 90-minute hot hatha class midafternoon. Now I will shower and I think reading is the only thing on tap for the rest of the day....

Friday, February 15, 2019

Friday

1hr as 1:1, beautiful day. Will do PT later, tempted by thought of evening hot yoga but will see how drowned the lungs are feeling, may be better to wait another day. Need to figure out current work priorities and a plan for the next few weeks - I'm juggling a few different things, though I did clear one important task yesterday.

Thursday, February 14, 2019

Thursday!

Very happy to get to 7pm hot ying yang class! I was snuffling too much and there's still WAY too much junk sliding around in lungs, I was coughing and hoped everyone else wasn't hating me, but the nice teacher said afterwards that coughing is good for recovering lungs and that the heat and humidity in the room are beneficial and should be taken advantage of.

Mon.-Wed. update

OK, this is better now. I took Monday totally off (the drugs were working already on the serious stuff but a sinus infection descended on me and made my face explode as it disseminated germs throughout my immediate environment). Tuesday did 1hr as 1:1 as I usually do, still feeling pretty sick; David then very sensibly changed all the rest of the week's runs to the same, so that was what I did this morning. Still not quite well enough for yoga, but I am counting on it for tomorrow evening - I do feel today as though I am no longer incredibly infections, and coughing more manageable too....

Tues.: 1hr as 1:1 and PT/ball release
Wed.: 1hr as 1:1

Sunday, February 10, 2019

Sunday

1hr as 1:1 in the am. Faced the fact that I really need to see a doctor, saw the doctor, got prescriptions. Tomorrow is a rest day in any case - really it will probably take more days before I am actually feeling better....

Saturday, February 9, 2019

Fri.-Sat.

Friday: non-run day, did 1pm hot hatha class.

Saturday: good run in the morning, 1:20 with 20 as 1:1 and then 60 as 4:1, happy about that. Didn't eat in time for the 3pm hot class to seem wise (it really needs a three-hour digestive interval) so instead stopped by the office for a couple hours and then went to 5:15 90-minute yin on the way home.

Thursday, February 7, 2019

Tues.-Thurs.

Tuesday was travel back from London, overwhelming. Wednesday: 1:05 with work set as 6 x 4 as (1min faster, 3min easy) and 20 as 1:1 bookending. Didn't get to yoga but did do ball release and basic stretch in the evening at home. Thursday: 1hr as 1:1, beautiful day and things feeling better (except not lungs), and 90 minutes hot yin-yang, very happy to be back at it.

Monday, February 4, 2019

Sunday, Monday

Sun.: 90 bookended with 30 as 1:1 and work set as 6 x (1:30 fast legs, :30 walking recovery, 3:00 easy). Very nice (but back sore!). Did PT in pm before going out. Spent most of afternoon huddled in bed, that was a much needed break!

Mon.: 1hr as 1:1. Will have to leave PT for later as I have many Things To Do and it is making me anxious...

Saturday, February 2, 2019

Friday, Saturday

Friday was nonstop frazzle from dawn till midnight, not kidding - nothing really was a disaster but everything was exhausting and a couple library things were snarled up (last straw was a problem with my locker that meant I had to hang around till after the reading rooms closed). Back did not benefit from having to carry heavy things in a plastic bag all day, including through Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms exhibit (which was horribly crowded and I was too grumpy and sore to properly enjoy); did emergency 15 mins of PT and ball release in early evening before going back out to the play which I DID get day tickets for - v uncomfortable sitting with sore back but glad I could get in!

Saturday: switched out the 2 weekend runs, just did 1hr as 1:1 today and will do the longer one tomorrow, still feeling pretty overwhelmed. Will do my 15 mins PT/ball release before heading back out to the BL for my first manuscript session (won't get the memoirs till Monday, but hoping to clear the other stuff this afternoon, and I THINK it includes the lock of hair....)

Thursday, January 31, 2019

Thurs.

Just 1hr as 1:1, very nice (chilly!) - leaving for London in an hour, need to eat, shower and pack in that span, better not linger online! This is tomorrow's run done today, so that tomorrow is simplified in terms of getting on with research things....

Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Wed.

Funny and good exercise day. Morning was 1:10 with work set written as 6 x (1min mod-hard hill, 3min easy), but I didn't have immediate hill access so really it was a bit of a hodgepodge. Managed to extricate myself in the evening from the Institute for 9pm 1hr Bikram with Coco, I can't do that regularly but I just felt I was going to DIE if I went home without some hot yoga, and it was amazing - she is super-quick, she utters the whole script at top speed in French! I really liked it.

Now must wash clothes - the only wash cycle is two hours and ten minutes, and there's no dryer, so I really do have to get it hanging tonight so that it's dry(ish) enough to pack tomorrow morning....

Tuesday, January 29, 2019

Mon.-Tues.

Had a fairly arbitrary fit of stress yesterday that is almost certainly the cause for wheezy lungs this morning. Anyway, all good:

Mon.: 15 mins PT/ball release in am, then at long last back at Delphine's excellent 1.5hr yoga therapy class in the evening
Tues.: 1hr as 1:1 (pretty nice), will go to Robin's 5pm hot hatha. Should then go to a fellow fellow's event at the American Library but it may be too much for me, I will wait and see....

[ED. Had another explosion of stress at the office - a glitch re: BL access requests required some crazy scrambling - and I can really feel the wheeze - no yoga for me tonight I think. Need to calm down!]

Sunday, January 27, 2019

Sunday

Nice end to the week: 40 as 1:1, 90 mins hot yin-yang. That's five runs and four yoga for the week - really I want it to be five yoga, and I think I need to reconsider whether it's realistic for me to go to a 7pm class, if I can figure out a way to do it earlier it will go better I suspect....

Saturday, January 26, 2019

2 x 75

75 mins jog as 10 @ 1:1, 50 @ 4:1, 15 @ 1:1
75 mins hot hatha yoga

Kind of a perfect day of exercise!

Friday, January 25, 2019

Wed.-Fri.

Wednesday: nice longer one, 75 with 40 as 3:1
Thursday: 1hr as 1:1

No yoga either of these days because of Institute stuff - I kept on working just a little too late for Thursday evening yoga but really I was too tired and underfueled. Need to consider if I can go to a 5pm class instead even if I don't like it as much....

Friday: non-run day (did today's yesterday), 1hr hot hatha - the 1pm class. Will try to get to this one more often, though not next week since I'll be in London....

Tuesday, January 22, 2019

Mon.-Tues.

Monday: non-run day, did quality PT at home, meant to go to back therapy yoga but forgot that it starts at 6:45 rather than 7 - was working away in my office noting that it was 6:20 and then head back down, suddenly saw it was 6:40 and that really I was no longer going to make it! ARGHHHH, but today was better....

Tuesday: weirdly snowy and cold morning in Paris! Did 1hr as 1:1 more slowly than usual due to concerns about slipping (it mostly wasn't an issue, but I get nervous), didn't quite leave time to get ready and ended up taking an Uber to my noon haircut appointment in the Marais, bus back to the office, had some chat with fellows (hospitality drama!) and a brief but effective work session, then 5pm hot hatha 90. Still a little bit sick, postnasal drip was bugging me on run and in yoga, but mostly better, and very happy to be back at it properly. No yoga tomorrow, but I'll do Dominique's hot yin-yang on Thursday evening at 7....

Sat.-Sun.

Just got back from 90 mins hot yin-yang - yoga is finally back ON! Low energy and lingering ailment basically just made it seem a bit stupid still on Friday and Saturday, but today I only had a short run in the morning and this 3pm class with Dominique is one I particularly like. YAY! Really missed it - good reminder of what a great complementary pair running & yoga are, I think this is my best way going forward (w/ possible swimming if I can get my act together).

Fri: 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk
Sat.: 75 mins with 20 as 1:1, 40 as 4:1 (YES!), 15 as 1:1

Friday, January 18, 2019

Thurs/Fri

Thurs is a non-run day which was just as well b/c I was still feeling pretty sick; did quality 22min PT/stretch/ball release in am, decided at end of day that it would just be stupid to go to yoga.

Fri: woke up feeling rather better, did my scheduled 1hr as 1:1, still a lot of phlegm and deep wheeze and not sure it was for benefit of body as a whole, though it makes me crazy to miss a day. Feeling better enough still that I think yoga is not stupid, will see how I feel end of day but current intention is ON.

Thursday, January 17, 2019

Thursday

Non-run day, did 22 mins quality PT/stretch and ball release. Lungs pretty poor when I got up, stayed in bed coughing for an hour, but shower steam helped; I would love to go to yoga this evening, but it will not be OK unless I can mostly not cough for 90 minutes, so I will see how I feel closer to the time....

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

Wednesday

Lungs still not good. Did 75 as 20 1:1, 30 4:1, 25 1:1; about 10 mins PT/stretching in my office in the early evening.

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

Monday, Tuesday

Monday: slept all day, went out around 5 to get some provisions (2 x 15min walk - thus acquitting myself of training schedule's request) and did at least a little bit of stretching mid-evening. Back felt great tho post-travel - I have finally seen real serious improvement.

Tuesday: 1hr as 1:1 jog-walk. Just now, about 20 mins of PT/stretch and ball release. Must not grow complacent or back will almost certainly get worse again! Lungs feeling not very good, but Coach David's philosophy is to train through these minor ailments, so I will run with that - certainly missing a run makes me feel really sorry for myself, so it is worth trying....

Sunday, January 13, 2019

Sunday

40 as 1:1. Long night of sleep, that was beneficial, lungs still not great but at a less unpleasant stage than yesterday (tho I am slightly losing my voice). Will do proper PT once I have showered and packed. Long travel day/night!

Saturday, January 12, 2019

Saturday

80 mins early as 30 1:1, 30 4:1, 20 1:1.
1hr yin yoga.

Lung ailment is slightly bothersome, nothing major. Last full day in Cayman - sad to be taking the cats back to the shelter, but also currently DREADING the project of getting them into the carriers! (Yes, I have a plan.)

Friday, January 11, 2019

Friday!

2 x 15 min walk to 6am hot yoga, pleasantly not quite as hot as it is supposed to be! An unprecedentedly cool day in Cayman, daytime high will only be 77, that's amazing...

(Should do some PT in the afternoon at home if I can make myself do it.)

Thursday, January 10, 2019

Wednesday, Thursday

I am feeling very good - the body is strong, stable and symmetrical!

Wednesday: 75 mins early as 20 x 1:1, 30 x 4:1, 25 x 1:1; 1hr hot yoga
Thursday: 60mins easy and early as 1:1; 1hr hot yoga

Switched tomorrow's run in for day's rest because there is no 6am hot yoga class on Thursday (just a power class that while intrinsically good is not good for my back), so tomorrow I'll walk in for the early class as my main exercise.

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

Tuesday

1hr as 1:1 jog-walk easy and early; plus 10:30am hot yoga. Both were very nice.

Monday, January 7, 2019

Monday

Got up extra early so I could have 10 mins dedicated cat-petting time, but somehow I just could not make myself get out the door for hot yoga - 4 or 5 little reasons (sweated so much at non-hot yoga yesterday being a prime one, and that friends of B's were visiting on a cruise and we were going to be outside at the Botanic Park touring the blue iguana breeding program for a big segment of the later morning) rather than one big - so once I'd really left it too late (5:45 - it's 15+ mins walk) I just went for 45 mins walk instead and then did about 25 mins of PT and ball release.

Sunday, January 6, 2019

Sunday

1hr easy and early as 1:1 jog-walk, then 9:30 flow + meditation yoga (75 mins - I barely got a spot, I should have got there earlier - resolutionism!).

Saturday, January 5, 2019

Friday, Saturday

1hr easy and early as 1:1, then K.'s 10:15 para yoga (75 mins). The yoga is great, and I like doing the single-nostril breathing exercises, but I am not sympathetic to the new-agey stuff! Will do a good long PT session once I have showered and possibly taken a short nap (awake in the night for a couple hours and was dreaming scarily and grinding my teeth in the subsequent hrs of sleep, I don't feel well-rested though on balance I probably did get just about enough).

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Wednesday, Thursday

Wednesday: very nice run, 75 mins, still 1:1 but doing faster "1s" in the second half. Decided not to worry about yoga so that I could have the full morning for work time (it was the dreaded cleaner day), had intended a serious PT/glute session in the afternoon but after a very poor night of sleep I ended up sleeping THE WHOLE afternoon from 2-5 while Brent was out. It did mean I couldn't fall asleep easily, and had to take some emergency Benadryl; a bit underslept now (it was a struggle to wake up) but not nearly as bad as yesterday.

Thursday: non-run day, decided that rather than walking I would do a proper PT session with some ball release and glute work. About 40 mins altogether. Will go to 10:30am hot yoga as well.

Tuesday, January 1, 2019

Tuesday

Very very nice 1hr easy and early as 1:1 jog-walk, then an excellent book session at Cafe del Sol. Liked the first forty mins or so of the ashtanga class (it was a 2hr introduction to the full primary sequence), but my cheeriness was deflated once we left behind the standing sequence and moved into the seated ones. My body just isn't suited to it - especially just now, as back and hip were very sore by halfway through (and I think I am going to get on the heating pad once I've showered, hope I have not done something that will trigger a real setback!), but I suspect it appeals mainly to those who are naturally flexible. So my curiosity was partly satisfied (I would like to observe a "real" class sometime and would love to read more about these different styles of yoga and their genealogies), but really I feel no need to pursue!
