Monday-night swimming

A good one today. Had to drag myself over there--the days are getting shorter, hard to leave the house after dark for a workout in midtown esp. with so many papers to grade--but after half an hour or so I was well into it.

Can't reproduce the workout in its entirety, but we were working almost entirely with fins on (this is good for me) and we had a demanding main set that's geared towards getting our timed 500s faster than they were the other week. The usual kind of warm-up, and some lengths of drill, to begin. Then:

12 x 25 (in sets of 4 descending--i.e. #1 at basic pace, #2 faster, #3 a bit faster still, #4 fastest and then #5 back to basics)
6 x 50 (in sets of two--first two basic, middle two faster, last two fastest)
3 x 100 (also descending)

Then 300 pull, some easy swim, then two all-out 100s at the end. The numbers are misleading b/c they're with fins on, but I think my times for the descending three were 1:30, 1:25, 1:20 and I did manage to do 1:20 or even a little faster again for those last two.

Some work on flip turns early on--I have a long way to go, that's all I have to say...

This whole shorter days thing is problematic!

Flip turns. They take work. But once you gain some proficiency with 'em, they're good fun.

And last night M did some warmups she couldn't remember, but which included a 100 back, then 3 100 IMs, then a 400, 300, and 200 free... She was pretty tired. Even the coach said he'd worked them. E is up to 50s, with a break at the far end (you should see the six year olds going back and forth, back and forth, arms flailing, bumping into each other in the lane, chattering away while they rest--so cute).
